It is home to a community museum that preserves photographs, weapons, tools, and artifacts once used by members of the Malayan Communist Party, who were active in this area during decades of conflict. Later, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak initiated a project to restore both the environment and quality of life in Thailand’s southern border provinces. The village was given a new name: Chulabhorn Pattana Village 12. Today, the community has embraced its unique past and transformed it into an opportunity for education and reflection. The village features a nature trail through tropical rainforest, where remnants of history remain—such as old supply tunnels and paths surrounding former military bases—offering visitors a deep and meaningful experience that bridges nature and memory.

The villagers of Ban Na Ton Chan originally migrated from northern towns, including Muang Nua and Lap Lae, and they still speak a northern dialect. The village’s name comes from the abundance of ton chan trees (a type of native tree) once found in the area. Most residents work as rice farmers and seasonal fruit growers. Many also engage in craft-based livelihoods, such as weaving, basketry, and creating wooden handicrafts from tree stumps. Life in the village is marked by a strong sense of community, kinship, and mutual support. It’s a peaceful, tightly-knit community that welcomes visitors with warmth and simplicity.
